One of the areas that I am working on in my GAME plan is using digital technology in projects to teach and assess. I am learning to edit digital videos to help the students demonstrate their knowledge of vocabulary and Spanish. One website that I have found to help me with video editing is www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Tutorials. This is helping me in several areas of editing. This week I plan to take some video during Thanksgiving vacation and then try to edit it on my computer. My sixteen year old daughter will probably be a lot of help as I work through editing the digital video. I am going to focus on adding captions to the video so that I can train the students to add captions that will focus on the vocabulary and the grammar. While I am doing this I am also working on a step by step plan to be able to work on this project with my students so that they are not overwhelmed. We will start by choosing the vocabulary and the grammar concept. Then we will write out a script using this information. After checking the validity of the script, we will then discuss how and where we want to act out the skit. Then we will spend a day or two video-taping the skits. After this we will work in the computer lab editing the videos.
The other area I am working on is adding to my website so that it is more helpful to my parents and my students. One way that I plan to do this is by interactive games on the website. I have found several websites where I can create games such as www.wikiHow.com, www.quia.com, and www.teach-nology.com. I am still working on how to use these websites. One question that has arisen is if I create the game on that website can I transfer it to my website or will I have to link to theirs? I am continuing to add study helps through multimedia presentations on the website.

Carla,
ReplyDeleteDoes your district require that you obtain parental permission for students to access these websites that host games? I am curious because in my district any sites with games are blocked by a filter, so students cannot access them at school. The administration has not yet been convinced of the educational benefit of some games and will not allow use of them. I continue to look for persuasive arguments to change their mind. I am going to check into the sites you mentioned in your blog to see if I can persuade them of the academic benefit of some games.

Your goal of using technology in teaching students is a great idea, I suggest you put educational games in your site, it will help in practicing their math skills and they won't get bored doing it. You can get games from YourKidsClub site it's owner is really dedicated in educating kids, I think you have the same goal.
ReplyDeleteMany sites are blocked. We have to put a plan in with the district showing why the sites should not be blocked and what educational value they are to the students.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great start there to your game plan. It shows you are using technology and trying to increase your knowledge. Another thing do not be afraid to ask students for help. I do know your age but I have students who in a few seconds can have software read and understood and working a program.
ReplyDeleteWindows Movie Maker is a great program...it is the program I used to edit my "Rock Band" video last year. It was very easy to use. You other plan to put interactive games onto your website is a good one too. Try www.webs.com for a website. I have an account with them, and they have some games that you can add to your website. I also had a website on www.quia.com a long time ago. I stopped using it because it became a pay-to-use site.
ReplyDeleteMrs. L,
ReplyDeleteI have been collecting bookmarks and I found a half a dozen right here and they are all good ones! Thanks for the tips!
